Fat Woman Takes on Wii Fit with Post-Pregnancy Diet and Exercise Regime

diaryofafatwoman.jpg

The self-proclaimed “Diary of a Fat Woman” gets off to a great start with some before photos and diet goals. She’s starting off with a BMI of 34.18, the result of a 5′10″ frame and 238.8 lbs. The new mom is aiming for at least 30 minutes of Wii Fit aerobics per day with a diet of 1700 calories. Due to breastfeeding, this is about 500 calories higher than one might expect if she was only feeding herself.
Trying to get back in shape after pregnancy is something many can relate to, and I look forward to checking back in on the progress of this new mom!

In order to count calories, she’s using a free online tool–

I do my calorie counting at calorie count plus, which is a part of about.com. And it’s free! I find that calorie counting helps me a lot in managing what I eat throughout the day. Otherwise I tend to munch on chips and cookies and bad things and eat too much for dinner or lunch, etc. So check it out! It’s at http://caloriecount.about.com.

We Ski: The other Balance Board Game

we_ski-may05.jpg So, what about the other game that uses the balance board? According to GameRankings, it’s settling into a 68% average from all media outlets. IGN gives it a 6/10:

We Ski put itself in a great position for the launch of Wii Fit, but it’s unfortunate that the core game doesn’t support the well-executed balance board integration with stronger core gameplay. The experience is slow, the mountain is small, and the game bombards users with text pop-ups and the need to constantly slow down and chat with other resort patrons in order to initiate short-lived challenges and races.

1UP had a different opinion, blessing it with a generous 95/100: (more…)

Wii Fit Diary from Globe and Mail - Week One

i_14997.jpg

Chad Sapieha from the Globe and Mail has begun an ongoing fitness journal describing his experiences with Wii Fit.  So far, he seems keen on yoga but he feels foolish playing hula hoop–oddly, it is one of my personal favorites.  He found some of the activites fairly tough:

But the most physically draining activities were the strength exercises, which involved push-ups, sit-ups, and a host of other challenges that left me aching and breathing hard. I see myself dreading these exercises in the days and weeks to come.

Mark Bozon Begins a 30-Day Wii Fit Workout Journal

Picture 2 2.png

Today Mark Bozon from IGN begins his 30-day workout journal.  The slightly husky Bozon aims to lose 15 pounds over the month.  He’ll be posting videos as well, so it promises to be a great hands-on look at a full Wii Fit workout program.

To prove that Wii Fit can be a good workout program for just about anyone, he adds:

I’m currently 24, played sports growing up pretty seriously until high school (including hockey, baseball, a lot of golf, and a bit of basketball), but have been pretty inactive in comparison since working in the gaming industry. In high school I also participated in my school’s marching band, which was very military-minded and surprisingly intense – it’s far more strenuous than everyone assumes – but also worked through a hip injury that I still live with today. I’ve got a 4” pin that holds my right femur in place against my hip, and while mobility is still pretty strong on my right side, I do occasionally have to back off of it.
